About the Merit of the book.
Nepal is meeting point of Asian wild animals and plants. Consequently, studies made of on wildlife and principals evolved for their conservation will be of interest beyond Nepal. Wildlife ! That is how we collectively refer to magnificent animals of the forest and beautiful butterflies, fish, bird and mammal including colourful plants. Nature has endowed Nepal with these magnificent asset having intrinsic academic and cultural values.
Some of the noblest and most beautiful animal and plant in the world are to be found in Nepal. But they are unlikely to survive unless something is done quickly to save them. Authors of the book, has spent more than two decade's studying and photographing intrinsic pattern of wilderness and biological diversity of life in other protected area of Nepal terai including Chitwan, Bardia, Banke and Sukalaphanta etc. It is the gift of the authors to show us the unmarked of Tropical Wildlife with such clarity, grandeur and intimacy that one dwells for a time upon the scene. It is piece of work with unique panorama of wildlife, its national parks and sanctuaries reserves, and men who have worked to preserve them. Still surviving in natural wilds are rhino, wild elephant, wild buffalo, swamp deer and more precariously tiger and leopard. Many spectacular bouncing dears and antelopes such as galloping mouse deer and four horned antelopes and dancing back buck of that deserve special mention. On the other hand it causes us shock to find how many how many zoological rarities such as Gangetic dolphin and the great Indian bustards are close to extinction and how others such as pink headed duck and marbled teal have been wiped out since the past two decades. Similarly tropical belt is considered vivarium of colourful flowering plants life and orchids. Many endangered plants having pristine medical, economical and ethno biological value facing extinction due to over exploitation. The authors also present vividly the spectacular facet of natural history and phenology of plants with attendant birds and insect life and define the value at stake and ecological issues and eloquently pleads for rational policy for ecological balance and economic prosperity. It also discusses key issues connected with man and wildlife in buffer zone and need and opportunity for wilding buffer zone area. For some one interest in natural history, ecology and wilderness of tropical forest, this is enthralling and informative work.
